Remarks:
In this first year of the "Science Fiction Achievement Awards" - nicknamed the Hugos, after Hugo Gernsback - there were no nominating ballots; winners were determined by a single popular vote. And the tight rules about eligiblity in later years were not yet in place; roughly, anything published within the year or so prior to the convention was eligible. The awards were not yet a tradition; the following year's convention, in San Francisco, did not repeat them.
